Theatre Temp Presents: Antigone
Theatre Temp Presents: Antigone
By Lukas Bell
After the massive success of Alice last December, the Templeton Theatre Company is preparing to follow up their sold-out success with another excellent play. This semester, Ms. Zambrano is not directing the play, but rather the father-and-son duo Micheal and Seamus Fera, two professional directors hired by the school. The play will be Antigone, and it will be showing on March 4th, 5th, 6th, 11th, 12th, and 13th. Antigone is a Greek tragedy, originally written by Sophocles and adapted by David Rush, about a man named Creon (played by Bethany Norman), the antagonist, who rises from the dust after a civil war caused by a fight between two brothers, hoping to bring order and peace to Thebes. He deems one brother a traitor, the other a hero. But Antigone (played by Milo Bogdanovic-Milosevic), the protagonist of the story and sister of the two brothers, wants to give her falsely accused brother a proper burial. She quarrels with her sister Ismene (played by Lilia deBoer) and Creon in her attempt to pass her brother into the afterlife. The play is very dramatic, with comedic, heartfelt, and very emotional moments. Theatre Temp’s production also has a large chorus, which bridges the gaps between scenes and offers narration, backstory, and many things to consider during the play. A drastic change has also been made to the stage: all the walls are gone! There is nowhere backstage for the actors to be, and they will therefore be standing on or around the stage for the entire play. Overall, Antigone will be a much heavier and more dramatic play than the previous one, but will have the same amount of effort, talent, and excellence as every other show by the Templeton Theatre Company. Make sure to buy your tickets early for the show in March; you will not be disappointed!
