Book Recommendations

Book Recommendations By Alex Fogarty-Helsten 1. The Long Walk By Richard Bachman (later found out to be Stephen King under a pen name): A dystopian horror novel about a group of one hundred boys who participate in a televised contest where they have to keep walking at a steady pace nonstop until there is only one boy left standing. I read this book in late 2025 as it was becoming a movie adaptation. I personally really enjoyed it. It was filled with bloody horror, yet I found the characters still were well fleshed out and the story as a whole had good heart to it. It honestly made me go through a whole circle of emotions and it’s honestly the book I’ve had the biggest reaction to in quite a while. I would highly recommend it. I would also recommend the movie, but the book is better and it had way more detail and character depth. 2. That Was Then, This Is Now By S.E. Hinton: After reading The Outsiders in grade eight, I’ve been hooked on S.E. Hinton’s work. That Was Then, This Is ...

Interview With Our New Vice Principal, Karen Puzio

Interview With Our New Vice Principal, Karen Puzio By Uma Maric     Ms. Puzio kindly gave our newspaper an interview so our students have the opportunity to learn more about her.   1. How would you describe yourself to students who don't know you yet? I'm someone who genuinely believes that every person has potential waiting to be discovered. I've spent 17 years teaching Social Studies and working as Department Head and IB Coordinator at Churchill Secondary, and now as Vice Principal at Templeton, I get to support the entire school community. I love having real conversations with students, and I'm the kind of person who will remember what you told me last week and check in to see how things are going. As a VP, my door is open – whether you need help solving a problem, want to share something exciting, or just need someone to listen. I lead with my heart and my head, which means I care deeply about fairness and relationships, but I also believe in clear expectations...

A lament for the boys' washroom

A lament for the boys’ washroom By Mattias Kondor The room which lies before the mini hall Is used so often by the one who thinks He might fulfill his cleaning functions all But finds disaster coming to the sinks! The soap machine, expectedly, is messed, But he endures, and by routine commands The tap to start, but patience finds its test When flow recedes as quickly as his hands! He tries again and fails. He must be cursed, And as he tries another is undone For each sink operates just as the first His hands, frustrated, must wash one by one! It is a shambles, so I ask you, gents, To seek, for pointless plumbing, recompense!

Perspective

Perspective By Mattias Kondor The sun, again, descends the western skies, lets darkness coats the world it floats above, then rises in the east without surprise. It views with bright and eon-abled eyes, a birth, a growth, a child of cherished love; The sun, again, descends the western skies  too soon to hear this young one’s nightly cries for that which it speaks not in daylight of. Then rises in the east without surprise that star, to view a tailored wedding guise of stately suit and never-blemished glove; the sun, again, descends the western skies to dream the couple’s bliss; not to realize the suit is wake-bound, and the host thereof. Then rises in the east without surprise That everlasting optimist whose dyes Make swamp appear as stream and crow as dove. The sun, again, descends the western skies And rises in the east without surprise.

The Invisible People

The Invisible People  By Wren Davies    The invisible people are actually visible  Kind of, not really  You notice them in class; they answer the questions and just seem like regular people.  But the minute class is over, they seem to vanish into the hallways  They are like the NPCs of school, Kind, Sweet,  The people who only seem to be there when they talk or when you need something.  Most of them are the kind, helpful people who seem to be either  the quiet kids, Or, the teacher's pet.  But they are there  And they do care  So maybe say hi once or twice, it will make their day  Believe me, I should know.
